The sound artist and composer Gerriet K. Sharma has been working on the artistic exploration of building-sound compositions since 2009. Temporary vacant buildings in various European cities are utilized as sounding spaces, understood as scores of electroacoustic sound compositions and made tangible for the public. This is pursued in the form of a series of works of concertante or installative works with and in these buildings. The aim was and continues to be the artistic staging of previously unheard and unheard of sound spaces in empty everyday architectures. At the same time a sensitization for the individual sound of buildings and thus of living spaces becomes part of the process. In other words the works are created in and at places that have traditionally served or serve a very different purpose. Through their structural qualities they become the starting point or integral part of the sound composition and presentation.
For the implementation of the complex project, the {kA}: Cahmbers for Space Inquiries (www.kavs.cc) was founded in 2011. The members of the ensemble come from different fields: a sound artist, a graphic designer and DJ, as well as two scientific project planners with a focus on media science and spatial theory.
The event stages an interim review of the work and wants to discuss the results with invited guests, as well as introduce the series of works to an expanded audience. The artistic research project was promoted since 2010 amongst others by the Department A9 Culture, Europe, External Relations for a period of 3 years.
