For “Eadweard’s Ear”, Swiss artist Penelope Wehrli and her colleagues were inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s early photo series, which revealed human movement sequences in detail for the very first time. Via an electronic sensor interface, Jutta Hell and Dieter Baumann (Berlin dance company Rubato) and the masterful instrumental quartet of Alejandra Cardenas (prep. E-guitar), Stephanie Hupperich (prep. bassoon), Alexander Nickmann (prep. percussion) and Gerriet K. Sharma (composition) come face to face in a highly differentiated spatial composition. Over the several hour-long performance, the dialog ensuing between the movement and sound impulses forms into a completely distinct choreographic-musical aesthetic.
